Cream and Sugar?
Some jokes work best without words, like this collage. It depicts the Apollo 11 moon landing, but the astronauts have brought an English tea set along with them. Interestingly, there is no way for them to drink the tea as they are now because they would have to remove their helmets, which protect them from the vacuum of space.
First Time
In 2018 a high school in Florida, Stoneman Douglas High School, was entered by an armed student. 17 students were killed and another 17 were injured during the event. Afterwards, several surviving students took to the internet and other media to raise awareness of the danger the government has allowed due to lax gun laws. One prominent activist student was Emma Gonzalez, pictured here on the cover of the first ever front page of Time Magazine from 1923. This collage serves to describe the changing political climate in the United States and the call by members of all parties to begin anew.
Woman Running Blindly
This collage was my first ever. In it, I explore my interest in women as artistic subjects, space, and deserted landscapes. It does not have an intended message, political or otherwise.
Castle in the Sky
As children, we dream that fantastic events can unfold in our real lives. Even adults entertain the ideas of miracles and superheroes, magic powers, and undiscovered places. Perhaps, somewhere, there really is a castle floating in a cotton candy sky.
Sitting in the Ocean
An exercise in Photoshop, this collage served as an attempt to incorporate racial diversity into my art. The woman pictured is Hispanic. I was intrigued by the possibility created by Photoshop to have a person sit on top of the water. Behind her, though, is a detailed wall. Throughout this piece exists a butterfly motif.
On the Rocks
This shop came about by accident. In my searches for photos, I am always drawn to vintage or old fashioned looking portraits. My search for "old fashion" instead brought me this image, which I then edited to replace the ice ball with a photo of the moon.
The Diversity of Communication
One truth explored on this page is the not-well-known fact that communication comes in wildly different forms for different people. It is often believed that communication describes verbal or written discussions, that there must be words involved in some way. Despite this belief, we all agree that there is such a thing as "body language". We are also aware of the existence of neurodiversity that results in people who struggle to communicate non-verbally.
In this work, Steven Hawking is depicted conceptualizing the universe. Next to him is Madame X, renowned for the scandal of a slipping dress strap. She also conceptualizes the universe. Both communicate in unconventional ways: Hawking with his computer and Madame X by painting.
A Quick Flying Break
A southern blackbird rests on a phone line. He is dressed in an expensive suit with a matching hat. He holds a worm in his beak.
Southern Gentleman
This collage is the result of an online randomizer which gave me the words "black bird" and "southern". This blackbird crows with a southern accent.
ThereMagic
When people first witness a theremin performance, the intrigue is written across their expressions. The theremin is the only instrument which does not require touch to be played. Alexandra Stepanoff, pictured here, performs for NBC Radio.
Peaceful Beach Nap
This collage exudes luxury. An unidentified woman sprawls nakedly on a silken sheet. Behind her can be seen a gentle wave on a sandy beach. It is nighttime.
This collage serves as an expression of the beauty of the female body.
Snake in Your Throat?
Light can be very difficult to work with in Photoshop. Glares create pixels of a lighter shade of the same color, but glares can also create rainbow effects. In this shop, the sun's glare is somewhat shrouded by a woman's chin. A snake is leaving her mouth.
Sasquatch Pride
A famous photo with a twist. The world is changing, and Sasquatch can finally express their true identity. Bigfoot is gay.
